I used to love working at Ivy Park. My residents were truly the heart of the job — they made every shift worth it. I built real relationships with them and their families, and knowing I was making a difference in their lives gave me purpose and joy. But everything changed when the management team did. The environment shifted from supportive and team-oriented to stressful, chaotic, and completely disorganized. My breaking point came when I was left alone on the floor — the only care staff for hours, with zero communication or support from management. That moment made it clear just how little they valued their frontline workers and how unsafe things were becoming for both staff and residents. To make things worse, I waited months for my employee review — something that should be standard practice. I didn’t receive it until I turned in my two-week notice. That was incredibly disappointing and felt like a final slap in the face after months of trying to stay hopeful things would get better. Even now, over three months after I left, I hear that they’re still constantly short-staffed. Nothing has changed, and the remaining team continues to be stretched far too thin. One of the most toxic parts of the environment was the head chef, Jesus. He does not know how to communicate respectfully with anyone. Walking into the kitchen while he was there gave me instant anxiety. He constantly yelled at staff, belittled them in front of others, and created a hostile environment that no one should have to work in — especially in a place that’s supposed to feel like home to the residents. Leaving Ivy Park was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made because I truly loved my residents. I know they loved me too, and their families always showed me appreciation and support. But in the end, no amount of love for the job could make up for the toxic leadership, poor communication, and unsafe working conditions. I had to put my own well-being first. No one deserves to work in a place where compassion is exploited and safety is optional.

My mom moved into Sunrise a few months ago and I am just so impressed by both the management and the caregivers. Each one is so caring, professional and respectful. They are wonderful at responding quickly to me with the (many!) emails I have sent them. This last week they had a Casino Night to celebrate Sunrise's 40th anniversary and they invited both residents and their families. It was SO much fun. Great food, wonderful decorations and the dealers at each of the tables (blackjack, craps and roulette) were just great! Sunrise does so much to keep their residents engaged and active, and in addition, throw great parties!

My Mother moved in a month ago and is so happy to have people her own age to talk to. I was worried she would have a hard time but, the entire Sunrise staff has mad it easy for her to fit in. She absolutely loves the meals and the fact they change every day. She can also order room service. I have never seen her eat everything on her plate like she does at Sunrise. She is getting into the activities and loves to walk the gardens. I’m so happy with the service Sunrise provides. I didn’t like leaving her alone but now that she has been there a few weeks I’m very comfortable and know she is in the best hands. My mother tells me every time I visit all she needs to do is ask and the Sunrise staff will help her with her needs.
