I stopped by this Five Below yesterday while exploring Noho West plaza. My sisters love this store so I figure I would go inside to see what they have during the holiday season. This store is pretty big inside and organized just right where everything you need is toward the front. They have great prices on candy here so this should be the place to go before the watching a movie. They have other things as well like I saw a claw machine that isn't five or below but it's still a decent price. I didn't see any self checkout station here when I was there so maybe you just pay with a cashier here.

8/15 at 12:10PM, I walked into this store with what seemed like a group of employees having a meeting at the front door. I continued to look around this store because I don’t come here often. Near the back of the store, it seemed like a restock or remodel was happening. Boxes and step ladders were covering the majority of the walking space. As I approached the back and turned the corner, a store associated asked if I needed assistance. I let him know that I was okay. He and another man continued their conversation (with tons of profanity) as I browsed the section of AirPod cases. Once I returned to the self check out with my items, I was surprised to see a store associate assisting customers check out that the self checkout. It was my turn to check out at the 1 available register that was being used by the store associate. He was pretty pleasant apart from snatching my products out of my hands. He then asked me how I would like to pay and he selected card and stepped away to allow me the privacy to use my Apple Pay. Because I noticed him looking over my shoulder, I selected to run my transaction as credit to avoid him seeing my personal pin. He then asked me to answer a survey on the screen, but before I knew it, I hit the no button. He then questioned me on my answer with an attitude before giving my receipt. I told him that I just hit No, but what I should have done was walk him to the back to see all of the boxes on the floor, or to the T-Shirt section where the shirts were unfolded, or to the office supplies and note books were falling off the shelf.
In my opinion, if self checkout is available, I should be able to complete my purchase without someone hovering over me and questioning answers that I provided to questions meant to be answered in privacy. These employees should learn to lead with empathy instead of gaslighting or being condescending towards the customers. Had he not hovered over me in the self checkout, this entire interaction would have been avoided.

Five Below is a fun store. I go there usually for phone accessories. But to be watched by employees barely out of high school as if I'm going to run out of the store with everything in my hand is off-putting and insulting. Customers already have to do the job of cashiers. If you don't trust us to do the job, then hire cashiers and put a security guard at the door. Or perhaps have the employees attending to the self checkout are be a little less obvious. If this continues, I will stop returning.

I like the scan my own things and it's very uncomfortable when someone is looking when I enter my pin. I don't recommend coming here. -5

Like feeling like you’re being watched while you shop? Every employee I interacted with (although nice) made it feel as if I was stealing. The cherry was the employee checking every customer out on the self check out registers. The vibes aren’t here and there’s always someone over your shoulder. I noticed it being the start of the Christmas season half of their seasonal decor shelf space was empty.
