Highly recommend checking out Porto's if you're new to LA! It's an institution and for good reason. They're extremely busy with long lines most of the day, but it moves fast and is a well oiled machine. Their chicken sandwich is soooo underrated, one of the best lunch items imo. Their prices are literally the best in LA, it's a marvel of a business. It's probably #1 for value, that's why it's so busy. Don't leave without picking up a few baked items and/or potato balls.
I wish I could order ahead and pick up through their site, have always bummed about that but if you go at the right time (pre-or post lunch rush) it's not too hard to go in and grab something and be out within 10-15 min.

Walked in for breakfast and wow it was busy. I figured it would take a while but I was wrong. They have a system and it flows. Right away a nice lady took my order asked me to wait at the register while she bagged most of my order. She gave an electronic coaster to put on the table where we would sit. I paid and sat down. In short time the coffee and latte arrived at our table. We got a meat pie, potato ball, tamales, and a coconut fritter. As we started to taste the various items we could both tell this place knows how to make great food. We were both totally amazed with how wonderful the flavors we were tasting. Service was very good here also and the price was surprisingly good. This was an easy 5 stars! ⭐️ 👍

It looks like the fruit tart shell is filled to the brim with cream, but in reality there's an extra sponge layer inside and only a very thin layer of cream on top. If you're expecting a rich, creamy tart, you might be a little disappointed.
Also, while the breads/pastries are tasty, a lot of them start to feel quite similar; almost like they're using the same base ingredients across multiple items. Still good, but just something to keep in mind when you're deciding what to order.
One more note: I ordered an Iced Americano and it tasted a bit watered-down. I'd recommend adding an extra shot.

Placed an online order for pickup and the whole process was seamless—like a well-oiled machine. It was packed (Sunday afternoon, of course), but everything moved quickly and efficiently. I was heading to a party and grabbed three dozen potato balls and a variety of pastries, and they ended up being the hit of the night.
Porto’s is iconic for a reason, but what I love is that they don’t take that for granted. The quality is always top-tier, and the flavor is just as amazing as ever. I’m a huge fan—and always will be.
